International Kazakh-Turkish University named after H. A. Yassavi

The University was established on June 6, 1991 by decree of N. A. Nazarbayev and was originally named as Turkestan State University, abbreviated as "Tursu". Murat Zhurinov was appointed the first rector of Tursu. On his initiative, this University was later transformed into the international Kazakh-Turkish University named after H. A. Yasavi

According to the General Declaration of the Almaty summit held from April 29 to may 1, 1992 between the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey, Suleyman Demirel, the two countries signed the "Agreement on cooperation in the fields of education, science, culture, and sports" on may 1, 1992, where it was decided that Turkestan State University should become a University of both countries. The Memorandum of intent was signed on September 28, 1992 in Ankara.

"Agreement on the Establishment of the international Kazakh-Turkish University named after Khoja Ahmet Yassavi in Turkestan" was signed on October 31, 1992 between the governments of the
