In 2025, Kazakhstan's education system has undergone significant changes aimed at improving the quality and accessibility of education.

Modernization of school infrastructure

The Ministry of Education has initiated large-scale renovation of 1,231 schools across the country, of which 820 are located in rural areas. It is planned to carry out major repairs, equip modern subject rooms, upgrade furniture, modernize libraries and canteens, as well as improve security systems.

Opening of branches of international universities

According to the statement of the Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek, 11 branches of leading foreign universities will start operating in Kazakhstan in 2025, including Cardiff University, the University of Exeter, the University of Glasgow and the Korean Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). This is aimed at improving the quality of higher education and attracting students from abroad.

Launching the AI-SANA program

In 2025, the AI-SANA educational initiative was launched, designed for 100,000 participants. The program is aimed at developing skills in the field of artificial intelligence among students, supporting DeepTech startups and technological entrepreneurship. It was developed with the participation of international experts from institutions such as Stanford University and Imperial College London.

Successes of Kazakhstani universities

In 2025, four Kazakhstani universities — Nazarbayev University, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University and Satpayev University — entered the Times Higher Education World University subject ranking. The success of Nazarbayev University, which ranked among the top 200 best universities in the world in the field of Education, is particularly noteworthy.
