In February 2025, the largest chess academy in Kazakhstan, founded by five-time world champion, grandmaster Zhansaya Abdumalik, began its work in Zhezkazgan. The 900-square-meter educational facility is designed to educate about 1,000 children in the region aged 5 to 18 years. The project was implemented jointly by Kazakhmys Corporation and the Akimat of Ulytau region. The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Tourism and Sports Yerbol Myrzabosynov, Akim of Ulytau region Dastan Rysbekov and other distinguished guests.
