Almaty College of communication was founded as a school in September of 1930, it was one of the first colleges in Almaty. In those days the College was called College, which was opened at the school No. 14. In the first year of training were recruited 130 people to training and immediately he became known as the Almaty Polytechnic College of communication. First time for school was quite difficult — did not have their own classrooms, the teaching staff was too small, the laboratory was absent. Incoming students to settle was not much, and they had to rent rooms or to settle with relatives and friends. Teachers College worked mainly part-time during College and at the University. Among the first teachers were: Bimot-Cubina, Maslennikova, Samples, Tugarin, Thick, Nevsky, Polumiskova, Pavlov, Kobilov, Puchkova. And the classes were held anywhere — at school No. 14, in the office of communications and even in the basement of one of the houses. Classes were held in the evening, when the school came to an end. In 1932, was built two-storey barrack-like dormitories for staff and students. Even after 3 years the College got possession of the old post office building, where they began to operate lab radio, telephone, Telegraph, electrical and physical office.
In 1933 began the construction of a new academic building for the College on Abai Avenue, and a year later, in March 34th scored the first 25 students of the evening Department of the College. In 1937, classes were held in the unfinished building, and a year later the new Director of the College Skuin Arthur Petrovich took over the construction and management of employees.
In 1940, construction was completed, from the first days after the project started to recruit teachers and conduct classes for them for professional development. Soon began the difficult war years, but the College continued to train specialists for the needs of national economy and front.
Year after year the material and technical base of the College was strengthened, grew and improved by faculty in 1956 opened the first correspondence Department. In 1976 there was a fire and the building of the College, which so long and so diligently built was destroyed, therefore the students and teachers began a new problem. Classes were held in the building of the Institute of hydrowash and 92 school. For all the years of existence the College has changed not only its location in the city, but status.
In 1980 a laboratory building, this year began to prepare specialists in Karaganda on the correspondence form of training. In 1994, the College got the status of College. Since the founding of the College was produced the 66 editions of full-time and 44 part-time students, the total number of trained specialists was more than 26 thousand people who are now successful and hardworking work in telecommunications. The College boasts of having 40 teachers, of which 12 have work experience of more than 20 years, 11 have the highest qualification category and successfully share their knowledge with the young generation and novice teachers.
The College entered the Association with the College of the city of Almaty since 1998 and since 1999 is part of the Kazakh-American University today is training on 7 specialties, where much attention is paid to the diversification of curricula and programmes implemented methods of innovative development and gradually progressing to continuous education. The Board of Trustees is a voluntary Association of individuals and legal entities and is a collective Advisory body for the support and promotion of educational and economic activities of KAU. In its activities the Board of Trustees is guided by the resolutions of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Charter of KAU, the Regulation on the Board of Trustees of KAU, other normative legal documents of authorities. The Board of Trustees promotes more effective cooperation with local authorities, media, institutions, organizations and specialized enterprises.
