Kazakh University of communications was established in 2000 as a non-profit organization of the state type. University can be considered a University continuing education, because on the basis of higher educational institutions are functioning colleges Feasibility and Astana feasibility College that creates good conditions for training in the specialties of transport and communications complex, and then to higher education at the University. For the current period the CBSA and its colleges provide education for 156 occupations and several dozen master's degree programs and doctoral programs. The University publishes and subscribes to many magazines such as 'Industrial transport of Kazakhstan' and the newspaper 'Express TJ'.

The main directions of scientific research: - improvement of design, construction and operation of Railways, roads, utilities and communication structures; - increasing the efficiency of transport vehicles and equipment for rail and road transport; - improvement of system design for electrical networks, means of communication and control in the transport and communication industry; - prospects of development of rolling stock on railway transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan; - the Outlook of the modern locomotive construction abroad and in the CIS countries; - increasing of efficiency of work of devices of automatics and energy; - improving the reliability of high-voltage lines of longitudinal electric power supply in wind areas; - work with intermediate rail fasteners and make suggestions for their improvement to safety of operation in various regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan; - improvement of patency in off-road conditions; - improving the efficiency of rail transport under modern conditions; - logistic scheme of the organization of international rail transport;

The library was opened with a University, now it is developing at a heightened pace. The library Fund is completed on the basis of the Charter of the University, plans for the educational process and the literature recommended by the departments. Reference library services for students include:

Since 2008, the library maintains a record on transport, education and various kinds of Sciences, and publishes faculty work in the state and Russian languages. The book Fund of the library is 349 120 copies in Russian and foreign languages.

There is a sports complex where everyone can find exercise equipment like bikes, weights, dumbbells, treadmills, swimming pool, volleyball court, football field, free weights and more. The sports complex was put into operation in February 2009. Training for students fee — this fee is 3000 tenge per month, 3 times a week for 2 hours. Sports complex in charge of 6 teachers with higher sports education.

Distance learning technology – learning technology carried out with the use of information and telecommunication tools in mediated (at distance) or not completely mediated interaction of the student and the teacher. Educational process that is realized through the interaction of an instructor and the learner regardless of location or time of training by means of information and communication technologies.

Techno-economic College (FEC) in the establishment of the “Kazakh University of Railways” (the CBSA) was created on the basis of rector's order No. 71-1 from 01.06.2004 for the preparation of technical and economic mid-level professionals.

05 Feb 2013 the College was renamed to limited liability company 'Almaty technical and economic College of communications' license is issued from 07.06.2013 №13009129.
