Zhezkazgan University named after O.A. Baikonurov
In 1961, the Minister of higher and secondary education issued a decree on the opening of a new Institute in the Zhezkazgan region, this Institute conducted courses for training electricians and builders. Year after year, new departments and faculties were opened, and in 1992 the Institute was renamed the Zhezkazgan mining and technological Institute. The development of industry in the region was very rapid, and the problem of training teachers for the country's economy was acute. In 1975, the Institute was renamed the Zhezkazgan University named after Baikonurov and there were two faculties: Philology and physics and mathematics.
