Atyrau state University named after Dosmukhamedov

            The need for opening educational institutions in Guryev, appeared on the eve of world war II, as in region there was an acute shortage of specialists. At that time the town had only one school that trains primary school teachers. Thus in 1939 was opened the educational institution to prepare teachers of all profiles, with duration of two years. The first year of study at the Institute had 120 people, and on the basis of the number of students who a year later was opened a hostel, but in ' 41 was found a new dormitory for 500 people. After the war strongly enough teachers, so in 1950 opened the Guryev teacher training Institute, training in three areas: physico-mathematical, linguistic, and natural-geographic. Physics and mathematics Department was housed in the teachers ' Institute, and the philological located at school No. 6.

The academic building of the University is a former school named after Lenin and two barracks for accommodation of students. The first issue of newly minted teachers was 150 people in 1952. As the years passed, the material-technical base of the College was improved, there were new teachers. However, there was a demand for specialists of this profile, of which the new Institute was not prepared. In 1959-1960, had two compartments and was opened correspondence.

1963 marked the University's receipt of a building of boarding school, which went to students of history and Philology and the University administration. The University still expanded and by 1970 already had 15 faculties. To provide better education in 1975, first began to attract teachers from abroad. In the same year, the number of teachers has increased to 120 people, of which 17 persons had academic degrees, and only 30 were graduate students already enrolled 2,700 people.

Since 1962, were held scientific conferences, became operational separation training. Great attention has been paid to the staffing of the library book Fund which already amounted to 130,000 copies. For training purposes when the library had a movie theater that was showing pre-war and post-war movies. Great attention was paid to activities and student organizations. Started KVN, there was sewing, guitar, debate, culinary circles. Very popular was the circle of first aid. In student leisure time was involved in more than a quarter of all students students. Teachers of music, organizes a vocal choir, a brass choir, the orchestras of Russian and Kazakh instruments.

In 1977, on existing faculties 'Music and singing' and 'Pedagogy of primary education' was opened musical and pedagogical faculty. Began the process of reshaping teachers, new chair of theoretical physics, mathematical analysis, geometry, pioneer and Komsomol work. Thus by 1980, the number of departments has increased to 24.

In December 1986, the University got student dining room for 220 seats. Later opened a sports complex with a sports field, gym and large swimming pool. In 1988 was built and put into operation the third hostel on 400 places. Completed new building of the institution, which could seat 1200 people. In 1990 appeared the first language laboratory, which prepared teachers of foreign languages and literature. The total number of students has amounted to 4,776 people.

2000 was the year when an educational institution has received its third case and the fourth dormitory. Increased the capacity of the corps of teachers, numbering 390 people, 107 of them have degrees, 83 candidates and some professors. Appeared laboratories equipped with computers. Such laboratories have helped to accelerate the learning process of the entire University. The University began to carry out various off-site conferences, it established its own printing press, producing the University newspaper. Soon appeared the first scientific work of teachers, who were also implemented by our printing house.

Today, the University of Khalel Dosmukhamedov is a highly qualified teaching staff including doctors and candidates of Sciences, masters and academicians of international academies, honors public education, of journalists of Kazakhstan, artists and masters of sports.

Today we have a European Union programme aimed at the implementation of assistance projects created by our talented youth. A private Museum, founded in 2001. Currently, the University educates for 46 undergraduate majors and 14 graduate programs. Educational space includes 5 educational buildings, 2 dormitories, a sports complex 'Zhayik' and medical center. 500 teachers trained more than 6 thousand students annually. There are six faculties of 'Innovative technologies', 'Natural and agricultural Sciences', 'Physics, mathematics and informational technologies, Humanitarian Sciences and foreign languages', 'Department of Economics and law', 'Department of multilingual education'.
